These dogs can break a leg easily and should not be over exercised. It is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise for puppies, as their bones are too fragile. Buy a puppy from a responsible breeder and check health certificates and pedigrees.

These dogs are generally not hard to care for, as they are easy to train and are eager to please the owner. They need little grooming and exercise and will do OK without a yard. Possible health problems common in the breed are: slipped stifle, fractures, PRA and epilepsy. Most italian greyhound rescue kennels won't have puppies, but will provide training and health care.
